French Penpals
For the past two years, St Michael and St Martin has enjoyed a language partnership with Ecole Lamartine, a primary school in the Courbevoie district of Paris. Our schools have been exchanging letters between the pupils, with every child assigned their own penpal, to whom they write every term. Pupils from the school write in French and their penpals in France write back in English, so both sides can practice what they have been learning in class.
So far this year, year 5s and 6s have exchanged letters introducing themselves, their family and pets (some enclosing photos and pictures); they have written about their favourite and least favourite foods, sent Christmas or Valentine’s Day greetings and found out that in France, instead of Christmas cards, people exchange New Year’s cards.
