Celebrating Chinese New Year (28th January)

School-wide Chinese New Year Celebrations

We have been celebrating Chinese New Year this week. Every year group has taken part in a variety of activities, ranging from making beautiful blossom pictures in various media in Nursery, to making and tasting a variety of noodles in Reception, to a plethora of craft activities including paper lantern, rooster fan and dragon mask making. We have also had traditional Chinese story readings and special Chinese New Year assemblies by Year 2 and Year 5.

We would like to send a special ‘Thank You’ to Mrs Deegan, a parent, who came into school on Wednesday 25th January to talk about the coming Chinese New Year (28 January). Mrs Deegan gave a talk about some of the traditions around this time of year, as well as teaching us a few words and phrases in Mandarin. She spent a morning with the whole school, starting off with a special assembly for Nursery and the Infants, followed by individual talks to each year group from Year 3 through to Year 6. She also gave every child a fortune cookie to take home with them!

We are very grateful to parents who come in to share their culture and language with us. This is a very enriching experience for our pupils.
